Avalon NZ Godmother Blesses Ship In Maori
Avalon Imagery Two Godmother, Judy Bailey, with Avalon Waterways'
managing director Patrick Clark
Avalon Waterways has welcomed its first Godmother from New Zealand: award-winning broadcaster and philanthropist Judy Bailey, known as the “Mother of the Nation”. Bailey christened the Avalon Imagery II in Germany in the company of VIPs including many from New Zealand’s travel industry.
The choice of a New Zealand Godmother reflects the company’s growing market and travel agent support in that country, according to the company’s general manager for New Zealand, Troy Ackerman. The 110 m Imagery II will carry just 128 passengers and is the latest in the company’s fleet of Panorama class suite ships, featuring a majority of staterooms with beds that face wall-to-wall windows. Following the launch, the ship will sail Avalon’s Romantic Rhine itinerary between Amsterdam and Basel.
Judy Bailey's Blessing in New Zealand’s Maori language:
E te waka tere awa,
Tere ki uta,
Tere ki tai,
Tere ki te whai ao,
Kite ao marama,
Tihei mauri ora.
May your journey be safe from launch to landing, whether on river or sea.
I bless you with the breath of life.
And now it gives me great pleasure to christen thee: Avalon Imagery Two.
