A loving kiss from Rudi for Kristin just prior to her speech
AmaWaterways christened its 20thriver cruise ship in Lahnstein, Germany this week.
The 158-passenger AmaKristina is named after its owner and executive vice president Kirsten Karst, who is also the vessel’s godmother. Attending the festivities were 5 previous AMAWaterways’ godmothers including Canada’s own Brenda Kyllo, now an AMAWaterways executive.
Open Jaw correspondent Vanessa Lee, herself a ship godmother (though not an AMAWaterways ship), was on hand for the christening and sent a few words and pictures.
“Yesterday in the charming town of Lahnstein in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, Kristin joined a relatively small group of women who have now successfully christened a ship,” Lee writes.
“And in this instance, it was her ship in more ways than one as of course it is named in her honour. With a backdrop of the magical Castle Stolzenfels, a wonderful medieval fair atmosphere, some adorable songs from a group of local children and a bright sunny spring day, the speeches were well received, there was a wonderful kiss as Rudi proudly introduced his wife and a great time was had by all.”
Lee concludes: “Kristin smashed the bottle of champagne beautifully and with great determination to resounding cheers and hearty congratulations.”
AmaKristina will sail Rhine River itineraries from Basel to Amsterdam in 2017 and boasts features including connecting cabins, three dining venues and a heated pool.
The luxury river cruise line is celebrating its 15thanniversary this year as it prepares to launch five new ships by 2019. Look for more details on the ship and its amenities as Lee provides a full report on Open Jaw tomorrow.
