No Regrets: CCL’s Adolfo Perez & The Infamous Tattoo

CruiseWeek

During Carnival Cruise Line’s ‘Agentpalooza Bus Tour’ held earlier this year, CCL's sales team visited agents in six cities, attracting an average of 250 agents per location. The biggest event was in New Orleans, where VP Sales & Trade Marketing Adolfo Perez had a permanent tattoo reading "Travel Agents Rock" inked permanently on his arm. The unusual event was broadcast on Facebook live.

The move likely earned Perez some permanent fans among the agency community, where Perez and his team have been mending fences after some rocky years, but CruiseWeek still wondered why he did it.

“If I was young and got a tattoo, my parents would have killed me. The idea came from the creative agency as an option for things to do to really amp up the New Orleans agent event. When they said it, I thought it was a temporary tattoo, and I'm like, ‘Oh, well, who's going to care about that?’ And then they were like, ‘No, no. We're going to get a tattoo artist from Miami Ink and we would do this live on stage.’ I was like, Hmm.”

Perez says he and the agency discussed the various choices for the event, and finally he asked them which one they thought would have the most impact. “They all said the tattoo. I said, ‘OK, we'll do the tattoo.’"

Seconds after he came off the stage, Perez received a text from Carnival founder and Chairman Micky Arison. It read: “You have officially lost your mind.” But it also came with smiley faces, so Perez knew it was meant as a compliment.

He says some friends told him he would regret the decision, but he doesn’t.

“First of all, this is not my first tattoo. And at the end of the day, everything that I have in my life, from material things to learning experiences, has somehow or another been impacted by travel agents. I'm always going to be grateful and I will never regret that this tattoo is on my arm."
