There were 42 Canadians among the 852 pax and 382 crew members aboard Celestyal Crystal when it collided with a tanker while passing through the Dardanelle on its way to IST late last week.

Celestyal Cruises says there were no injuries in the collision, which resulted in ‘structural damages’ to the bow of Crystal.

Pax were given a number of options, depending on where they were travelling to, and Celestyal says all will be refunded their cruise fare and offered a complimentary 7 day cruise, valid until the end 2016.

At this stage it isn’t clear how long the repairs will take and the impact on future sailings.

For the past couple of years, the Crystal has spent its winters cruising around Cuba in a joint venture between Canadian Dugald Wells and Celestyal parent Louis Group. The ‘Cuba Cruise’ program is scheduled to continue this winter, but without Wells. Celestyal took full control over the operation earlier this year.
