Crystal To Go Bigger & Sooner Into River Cruise Market

Open Jaw

Crystal River Cruises is expanding even before it launches. The line has announced that it is doubling its order from German shipyard Lloyd Werft from 2 to 4 ships, and will enter the market a year ahead of schedule by purchasing the German-built MS Mozart, the largest river cruise vessel in Europe.

Following an extensive dry dock, the enhanced vessel will be renamed Crystal Mozart and set sail on the Danube 13JUL16.

“In response to travellers and travel agents’ enthusiasm for Crystal River Cruises, and through Crystal’s innovation, we are upping the ante once again, bringing “true luxury” to the river cruise sector with the largest guest suites and public spaces, the highest crew-to-guest-ratio and Crystal’s award-winning service,” said Crystal Cruises President Edie Rodriguez. “Once the transformation of Crystal Mozart is completed, it will truly be the crown jewel of the European rivers.”

Crystal Mozart is designed to fit into the wider locks of the Danube River from Passau in Germany to Budapest in Hungary, and holds the record of being the largest river cruise vessel on European rivers, measuring 75.1 ft. wide (22.9 meters), double the width of an average industry river boat.

The 160 passenger capacity vessel offers window suites of 203 sq. ft., deluxe suites of 215 sq. ft., a penthouse suite of 322 sq. ft. and 2, 2-bedroom Crystal Suites of 860 sq. ft., the largest on any river vessels.

Crystal says the vessel’s unique features will remain, such as a public area that spans a single level and amenities including multiple dining rooms, a wraparound promenade, spa and fitness centre, indoor pool, beauty salon and library.

The 4 new all-suite Crystal River Cruises ships will debut in June and August 2017, boasting suites of 220 sq. ft., deluxe suites of 250 sq. ft., a penthouse suite of 500 sq. ft. and a 2-bedroom Crystal Suite of 750 sq. ft.

The suites will all feature king size beds - which Crystal says is an industry 1st - walk-in wardrobes and bathrooms with double vanities. Similar to Crystal Mozart’s concept, the river yachts’ public areas and dining venues will all be on one level.

The new vessels will feature a Palm Court with dance floor and glass domed roof, a library, fitness centre, spa and sporting equipment such as electric assisted bicycles, kayaks and jet skis.

Two of the Crystal River Yachts will cruise the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers with 110 passengers. The other 2 will have an 84 passenger capacity One will cruise the Seine River and the other the Garonne and Dordogne rivers as well as navigating through the Gironde Estuary.

Crystal Mozart is named after the famous Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Following the theme of naming their 1st ship after a composer, the 2 new builds cruising on the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers will be named Crystal Bach and Crystal Mahler. The 2 new builds cruising on the Seine River and Garonne River will be named Crystal Ravel and Crystal Debussy.

Itineraries, fares and bookings for all 5 Crystal River Cruises ships will be available 30NOV.
