A Unique Souvenir From Costa Cruises – 3D-Printed Guest Replicas

Open Jaw

Now that’s an interesting souvenir! Costa Cruises is offering guests on Costa Diadema 7-day West Med cruises the opportunity to purchase a 3D statuette – of themselves.

A shipboard expert will use a handheld scanner to capture every detail of a person, from hairstyle to arm position. The digital file is then sent to Barcelona-based Labs3D, Costa’s partner in the project. There, the file is processed in a 3-D printer, creating a miniature reproduction of the guest. The statuette is then shipped to the guest’s home.

The 3-D reproductions are available in five sizes, ranging from about 13 to 20 cm (5 to 8 inches) tall. Prices start at about $97 plus shipping expenses.

While currently available only on the one ship, this is something that could prove popular. What kid wouldn’t want an action figure of themselves?
