Busted! Pax Caught On Video Stealing Cash From Overhead Bin
Video appears to show theft from bag in overhead bin
An airline passenger has been allegedly caught - and filmed
- red-handed, stealing nearly $8,000
passenger’s bag on a flight to BKK from IST.
The suspect, said to be aged 45 and a native of China’s
Henan province, was arrested by Tourist Police at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi
Airport after TK064 arrived from IST, Thailand’s English-language Bangkok Post
Deputy Commander of the Tourist Police Division at the
airport, Police Colonel Nitithorn Jintanakanon, said the Chinese passenger
faces charges of theft on an aircraft.
The suspect stands accused of stealing €5050 plus other
foreign cash from the bag of a Danish passenger in the overhead compartment.
The plan came unstuck when a Turkish passenger sitting
several rows behind the alleged thief used a mobile phone to record the
apparent theft. The Turk then alerted cabin crew to what had happened.
Investigating police in Bangkok found the suspect’s return
ticket to Istanbul, on the same airline, was scheduled for the following day,
the Bangkok Post reported. That gave rise to suspicions the suspect planned to
leave Bangkok as soon as possible to avoid arrest.
