Switzerland: Solid Canadian Numbers For 2016

Switzerland Tourism reports that Canadian arrivals and overnights numbers remained solid compared to 2015, which was an all-time record year.

In terms of arrivals, Switzerland saw an increase of 0.9% in Canadian arrivals, for a total of 103,534.

The number of overnight stays from Canada in 2016 was 227,173, a slight decrease of 3% compared to 2015. The Swiss overnights stats include only hotels, not vacation homes, other kinds of accommodation and visits with friends and family. 

Over the last 10 years, the number of Canadians visiting Switzerland has increased by 30%.

Canadians appreciate the rich cultural heritage of the Swiss cities as well as the natural beauty of the mountains,” says Evelyn Lafone, Market Director Canada.

The top 3 most popular Swiss regions for Canadian visitors were Zurich, Geneva and Valais. The biggest growth region was Grabuenden with 14.3% more Canadian overnights in 2016.
