The Dominican Republic has had a very strong summer for tourism and there’s no sign of a slowdown as the fall season approaches. Canadians played a big role in the D.R.’s summer success.
In July, the D.R. saw an annual increase in North American visitors of 3.6% or over 71,000 more arrivals than the previous July. The makeup of this increase is interesting -- Canada provided an 43,587 additional tourist arrivals compared to just 27,646 from the U.S.
In the past 10 years, the DR has added 10,000 hotel rooms to accommodate steadily increasing tourism demand. The total is now over 75,000 hotel rooms and there are more than 15,000 under construction.
