Nearly 840,000 Canadians visited the Dominican Republic in 2017, a new record for the destination.
Overall tourist arrivals to the D.R. steadily increased throughout 2017, ending with a total of 6.8 million international visitors to the country.
Air arrivals increased by 4% compared to 2016, with July and December as peak months. Sea arrivals nearly doubled in 2017 to over 1.5 million, and the total hotel occupancy rate was a solid 77.1% for 2017.
D.R. tourism representatives say that road improvements in all regions will increase tourism connectivity in 2018.
On the hotel front, new developments include the opening of Emotions by Hodelpa in Playa Dorada, which will feature swim-out rooms, a spa, fitness facilities and three pools.
