Michael Geske and Patrice Geske

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and in order to celebrate the most romantic day of the year, we’ve been chatting to Canadian couples who work together in the industry and still love it – and each other!

We’re kicking off the week with Michael Geske, Managing Director of Exclusive Tours and Patrice Geske, Marketing Manager for the Globus family of brands.

How did you meet? Michael: We were both working in sales for Royal Cruise lines and met at a sales meeting in San Francisco in 1992. At the 1st session we sat next to each other because that’s how the alphabetical seating worked out. I pulled a few strings to get her seated next to me at all of the meetings. Patrice: I thought it was just that the whole team was seated in alphabetical order for every session!

How long have you been married? Michael: It will be 21 years in April. Patrice: We got married in Lake Tahoe – it was small, intimate. Michael: Maybe 30 people?

Where did you go on your honeymoon? Patrice: We stayed on and did a skiing holiday.

What’s the most romantic destination you’ve travelled to? Patrice: Hard to say! I loved our Star Clipper cruise in the Caribbean. Michael: And some of our river cruises in Europe have been fun.

Do you recommend marrying someone who works in the same industry as you do? Patrice: Not travel if you want to get rich! (Both laugh)

What are the pros? Michael: You can tap into multiple resources of perks including, of course, travel. Patrice: When I talk about work, Michael will understand my frustrations about, say, downturns in the industry.

What are the cons? Michael: You’re really talking about a lot of the same stuff - our perspective is from just the 1 industry. Patrice: Those downturns? We’re in it together! (More laughter)

What do you think is the secret to a happy marriage? Patrice: Letting me go shopping whenever I want! (Much laughter from Michael) Michael: You stole the words right out of my mouth! Seriously, marrying a friend as much as for romance. Patrice: Having similar interests and doing a lot of things together – we love to paddleboard, ski and golf.

How will you be spending Valentine’s Day this year? Patrice: We’re going to be skiing in Colorado!
