WestJet has announced 2 new routes, one for the mainline and the other for regional subsidiary Encore.
WS launched it 8th destination in Mexico with new, weekly seasonal non-stop service between Calgary and Loreto. The inaugural flight departed YYC 14FEB and will operate Saturdays thru 30MAY.
"Today's launch is further evidence of our longstanding commitment to provide safe, friendly and affordable air travel to Mexico," said Chris Avery, WestJet's Vice President, Network Planning, Alliances & Corporate Development. "We flew more than one million seats in and out of Mexico in 2014 and this year, we'll increase that capacity even further.”
As well as the new destination of Loreto in the state of Baja California, WS also serves Cabo San Lucas, Cancun, Cozumel, Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, Manzanillo, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta with a total of more than 120 flights per week from 19 Canadian gateways during the peak winter travel season.
Meanwhile, WS Encore launched new, non-stop service between Edmonton and Kamloops on Sunday, the beginning of daily flights that will depart Edmonton at 3:30 pm, arriving YKA at 3:50 pm. Return flights depart YKA 4:30 pm, arriving YEG at 6:46 pm.
"This is a prime example of the strategic advantage of WestJet Encore," said Ferio Pugliese, Executive Vice President, WestJet and President, WestJet Encore. “One of the original purposes of our regional airline was to enhance frequencies in smaller Canadian communities which, until WestJet Encore came along, were challenged by the capacity of our 737s. We are very pleased to offer service between Edmonton and Kamloops on our 78 seat Bombardier Q400s, and look forward to welcoming both business and leisure travellers on board beginning today."
