After eight months of behind the scenes work to
validate the concept and gather consensus, PATA Canada is about to re-launch,
with a group of 27 Founding Members.
“We are ready to have fun and bring the power of
PTA to the retail trade in Canada," says Barbara Dirnberger, National Manager,
Sales & Marketing for Discover the World and the driving force behind the
PATA Canada initiative.
The group says that PATA Canada will be the
resource for Asia Pacific for the Canadian travel trade. It's a
membership-based format, with retail agencies enjoying complimentary membership
and suppliers paying annual membership dues of $250.
The PATA Canada Board for 2015/2016 has been
announced. Serving as president is Air Canada's Rocky Lo. Treasurer is Judy Pym
of Centara Hotels and Resorts. Centricity's Doug Vogel is responsible for
Membership issues while Tourism Malaysia's Sandra Ngoh-Fonseka is in charge of
programs. Dirnberger will fill the role of Executive Director.
PATA Canada will launch on 22APRIL at the Diamond
Restaurant in Markham, Ontario, with founding members in attendance.
The PATA Party will also offer the opportunity for
agents living outside the Greater Toronto Area to join the celebration
virtually. Registration to attend will open in conjunction with the launch
of PATA Canada's website which will feature a directory of airlines, cruise
lines, tour operators and tourist boards that sell product to the Asia Pacific
