WestJet Reports Slight Decline In July Loads

WestJet has announced its July traffic results with a load factor of 82.8%. Revenue passenger miles (RPMs), or traffic, increased 5.0% year over year, and capacity, measured in available seat miles (ASMs), grew 5.6% over the same period resulting in a slight decline compared to July 2014’s load factor of 83.3%.

The airline flew a record 1.9 million pax in July, a year-over-year increase of 6.5% or more than 117,000 additional pax, and achieved an on-time performance rate of 83.8% in the month, an improvement of 2.3 percentage points year over year.

"We are pleased with our strong year over year traffic growth as we set a new single-day record, flying 72,240 guests on Friday, July 31st," said WestJet President & CEO Gregg Saretsky. "I want to thank our more than 10,000 WestJetters for their commitment to on-time performance and providing a remarkable guest experience through the peak summer travel season."

In July, WestJet Encore launched new service to Halifax, Sydney, Deer Lake, Gander, St. John's and Moncton.
