AMEX GBT Releases 1st Ever Canadian Travel Counsellor Survey

American Express Global Business Travel's (GBT) recently conducted its 1st ever Canadian Travel Counsellor survey. The TMC surveyed 100 front line members of its Canadian team to get an inside look at business traveller preferences as well as trends in air and lodging. 

 

Among the findings of the survey:

 

  • 79% of surveyed counsellors cite fall as the busiest time for business travel
  •  68% cited brand names as the most important factor for Canadian business travellers when booking hotels, followed by Free Wi-Fi at 19%
  • 93% of travel counsellors surveyed said Canadian business travellers typically make reservations less than 1 month in advance of their trip 
  • 47% cited using preferred suppliers when booking corporate travel as the top cost cutting measure in Canadian companies
  • 40% said reducing out-of-policy bookings is a priority for clients
  • 94% of counsellors say the majority of their clients prefer aisle seats
  • 78% of respondents say their corporate clients are more concerned about managing ancillary fees than in previous years

 

When asked to name the most valuable asset to their work, 52% said the Internet, 34% said personal connections at airlines, airports and hotels and 10% named the phone.
