Post-Olympic Bounce: AC To Drop GIG Flights

Summer Olympics host cities hope to see a jump in visitor arrivals for years after their time in the global spotlight. But AC isn’t foreseeing that with Rio de Janeiro, announcing it will indefinitely suspend YYZ/GIG flights as of mid-OCT.

In the run-up to the Games, much has been made of Rio’s problems, including a staggered economy, high poverty and high crime. Unless the city really dazzles during the Olympics, many tourists may wait for better times to visit.

“Service adjustments are part of normal airline schedule planning and the number of flights across our network may vary at certain times of the year, due to a number of factors including customer demand and aircraft availability,” said AC spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick.

AC will continue to operate daily YYZ-GRU flights, and it is upgrading the route to 787 service in DEC. AC pax can still get to Rio with a Sao Paulo connection with codeshare partners GOL and Avianca Brasil.
