Saying “Si!” To Spain

There’s nothing like a night of flamenco to heat up the snowbanks of Toronto’s tony Yorkville area (usually a place that’s so cool it hurts).

That was the mandate of the Tourist Office of Spain recently as they hosted a gaggle of industry types to an evening at the Babalu Club and Resto to launch their new BookSpain magazine.

If it’s true that bigger is better, then this surely is the best.  To be distributed to 30,000 homes of the richy-rich in T.O. (with other cities to follow), the oversized mag – which dwarfs conventional ones - was surely designed to be read in the back of a limo!

The mag has a sister website which will feature product, contests, and input from travellers with their recommendations about what to see and do.

And if the menu last night was typical of the culinary side of Spain, then dining should be right up on the list of activities. The crowd obviously enjoyed the tapas, shrimp and paella (though the genial Spaniard next to me found the paella a little spicy. Toronto dishing up spice?  Who knew!)

As the art director of the project, Alex Ferreira, pointed out, “After all, there’s more to Spain than matadors.” Clearly, a great deal. Find out more at www.bookspain.ca!
