Hop To It Australia!
It’s G’DAY Toronto Australia Week, and a good day it was for the Come Walkabout Media Lunch held at Crush Wine Bar.
This was no ordinary luncheon - Tourism Australia, Emirates Airlines and Wine Australia took us on a culinary walkabout through down-under delicacies the likes of Wild Barramundi and Kangaroo (which does not taste like chicken. More like tenderloin). Each course was paired with 2 glasses of wine and accompanied by a live Aboriginal Didgeridoo performance.
Australia’s own celebrity chef Mark Olive (aka Black Olive) prepared the lively menu which was topped by an assemble-yourself Lamington for dessert.
Also on hand was top Canadian Chef Michael Smith, host of the Food Network’s Chef At Home, who towered over the proceedings and shared Australian cooking tips garnered while filming “Chef Abroad”. Smith, who hails from PEI, noted that although Tasmania is geographically the farthest destination on the planet for him, it felt just like home. (Anne Of Tasmania? It could work.) His parting recommendation was to send your clients for a walkabout down under where “they’ll have one hell of a good time”, just like he did.
