SQ Celebrates 20 Years In Canada

Given the recent events at the Vancouver Aquarium, I jumped at the opportunity to attend Singapore Airlines’ recent Canadian anniversary celebrations function held there. A new baby beluga has recently been born there and I hoped to sneak a peek at him as well as celebrate SQ’s 20 years of service to Canada.

Commemorating its anniversary, Singapore Airlines invited its top agents around the country for a night of celebrations at the Vancouver attraction. There’s nothing fishy about this airline though. With an amazing track record and accolades piled mile high on its famous service, SQ has certainly shown the world why it continues to be nominated one of the top airlines in the world. Recognizing the support it gets from travel agencies, each agency present was given a model A380 plane (last fall, the airline debuted this giant aircraft in Sydney, Australia).

Leading the festivities was the Vice President for Canada, Campbell Wilson. However, the event was also Wilson’s farewell as he is taking up his new posting as General Manager of SQ’s operations in Hong Kong. Inheriting the helm in Canada is Andrew Budiman. Open Jaw discovered that Budiman recently tied the knot just before moving to Canda and would like to wish him and Mrs. Budiman an extended honeymoon here.

Topping off the festivities, as a parting gift, each guest was presented with a spray of beautiful purple orchids symbolic of the elegant carrier and its island home base.

As I wandered toward the Aquarium’s exit, I caught a glimpse of the baby beluga and its mother in their private pool. The pair has been kept isolated from viewing while the infant recovers from an infection. The aquarium has reported that the newborn is on the road to recovery – great news about the first calf to be born to a beluga in captivity in Canada – and for all of us who look forward to watching him grow.
