JAL Gets New J-class Seats For YVR

Finally, they have arrived. After the initial launch of its “Shell Flat Seats” in Executive Class some three to four years ago in the U.S. market, Japan Airlines will be rolling them out on its Narita-Vancouver-Mexico City route.

Tour operators, travel agents, JAL Club members and officials from the Mexico Consulate in Vancouver were in attendance at the launch reception, held at the Vancouver Marriott Pinnacle Downtown Hotel.

By September, the new seats will be fitted into the B747-400 aircraft, which will hold 12 First Class seats, 43 in Business and 323 in Economy. While enjoying the open bar and hors d’oeuvres on offer, agents at the reception took the opportunity to try out two of the “Shell Flat Seats” flown in specially from Japan for the occasion. Two JAL flight stewardesses were on hand to explain and demonstrate the new seat offerings such as a 170-degree recline, 62-inch seat pitch and a built-in massage function.

JAL flies twice weekly from Vancouver to Mexico City. According to District Sales Manager Steve Chen, this route is popular with corporate travellers who prefer flying on a bigger aircraft. With the addition of the fancy new seats, it’s likely to become even more popular.
