Bahamas Brings The Heat To Calgary

This winter, more than Chinooks will be warming up Calgary. Bahamas has come to town, in a very big way.

The Bahamas Tourist Office team – Ellison Tommy Thompson, Paul Strachan, Ambrose Morris and Janet Cuffie -- and a contingent of island hoteliers headed out west to woo the travel travel trade and the soon-to-be weary of winter public to its 700 sunny isles that just happen to sport the most beaches in the Western Hemisphere and the world’s clearest water.

A select group of 43 travel agents were invited to a dinner presentation at Calgary’s downtown Delta Bow Valley hotel. With cocktail in hand, agents visited with exhibitors and then sat down to dinner. The evening’s educational destination component hit some hilarious notes – thanks to the friendly rivalry between Sandals and SuperClubs presenters.

Several agents won prizes, with Melissa Herweier, manager Deerfoot Flight Centre, taking the grand prize trip to SuperClubs Breezes and Cape Santa Maria Beach Resort.

Earlier in the day, Bahamas unveiled its humongous new advertising campaign. For 24 weeks, four light rail transit cars will ride the rails fully decked out in colourful and enticing Bahamas ads, both inside and out.

When the thermometer hits -25C, that should ensure flocks of Calgarians flee to their agents to book WestJet and Air Canada Vacations’ packages to the Islands of the Bahamas.
