Club Med Rings In 65th Anniversary
Val Thorens Sensations, France
Club Méditerranée is celebrating its 65th anniversary this month.
The concept for the resort was developed in April 1950 by Gérard Blitz who opened the 1st property in Alcudia, Spain with help from Gilbert Trigano - who provided the tents.
Club Med's expansion started with
the opening of a resort in Tahiti in 1955; the first built summer resort in Agadir in 1965; the introduction of Mini Clubs for kids in 1967 and another resort opening in Guadeloupe in 1968. In the early 80s, Club
Med opened new resorts in Bora Bora, Malaysia, Brazil,
Mexico, Bahamas, and Maldives and continued to open new properties all over the world.
In March 2015, Club Med was bought by Chinese group Fosun and was delisted from the Paris Stock Exchange.
Currently, the resort chain has more than 65 all-inclusive
resorts worldwide and 13,000 staff representing 100 different nationalities and
speaking 30 languages.
