RIU Hotels Commits To Global Code Of Ethics For Tourism
RIU Hotels & Resorts has signed the Private Sector Commitment to the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics for Tourism. By signing this document, the Majorcan hotel chain formally pledges to safeguard a series of ethical principles related to sustainability and responsible development practices in tourism, such as respecting human rights, promoting the fight against the exploitation of people and the environment, gender equality, accessibility, as well as promoting respect for local communities and workers' rights.
The Global Code of Ethics for Tourism documents the main principles of the UNWTO and contains a series of principles which seek to maximize tourism's socio-economic contributions while minimizing its possible negative impacts and promoting hospitality values and the environmental, social and cultural sustainability of countries which receive tourism.
The signing took place during the workshop "Spanish companies as drivers of responsible tourism" which was held at the FITUR 2016 trade show. In attendance on behalf of RIU Hotels was the chain's Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Catalina Alemany, who remarked "RIU is making an important commitment which will undoubtedly increase the level of its CSR actions and will determine its future strategy for responsible policies in order to ensure that the goals of the Code are shared by all members of our organization".
