Trafalgar Hosts Beaumont-Hamel Tour With E & B Travel
Trafalgar and E & B Travel owner, Derek Winsor recently hosted a customized 10 day trip of the First
World War battlefields and Newfoundland
Regiment memorial sites in France, Belgium and England with 150 guests.
Many guests on the trip were from Newfoundland and had personal connections to the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel in northern France, where on July 1, 1916 the Newfoundland Regiment was positioned to fight the Germans. There were 801 Newfoundland soldiers that were given the order to go over the top that morning, they did so not knowing it would be one of the biggest ambushes ever. The next morning only 68 soldiers answered roll call.
“We are so pleased that Trafalgar was able to help our guests’ dreams come true by bringing them to the memorial sites where they could pay their respects and honour their loved ones and soldiers who fought for our freedom,” says Wolf Paunic, President of Trafalgar Canada.
Highlights on the Beaumont-Hamel guided vacation included visiting the 5 caribou monuments, Vimy Ridge, Dieppe, Juno Beach and the 100th anniversary ceremony of Beaumont-Hamel where many guests were able to lay wreaths for their loved ones.
