KLM Flies Canadian Veterans To Netherlands For 70th Anniversary Of Liberation

The Dutch are marking the 70th anniversary of their liberation today. To celebrate, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flew Canadian WWII veterans and their families from the airline's 5 Canadian gateways to the Netherlands.

The biggest delegation – topping 300 people, including some 40 veterans – left from Toronto on 01MAY. They were greeted in the boarding area by the flight crew for a pre-departure ceremony. Inside the aircraft, the airline had personalized the seat headrests with Canadian and Dutch flags.

The commemorative tour, arranged by Verstraete Travel, will take the Toronto group to the northern Netherlands and the actual battlefields where Canadian troops fought to liberate the country.
