Air Canada Vacations recently visited Havana to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Canada's relationship with Cuba.

To commemorate the occasion, the Canadian Embassy in Havana orchestrated a free concert in Havana's Plaza Vieja.

Hundreds of guests gathered in the square to enjoy performances by the Camara de La Habana orchestra as well as the Habana Compass Dancers and Canadian musician Aldo Mazza. The crowd also sang along with popular Cuban musician Carlos Varela and experienced the sounds of Juno award-winning Canadian rock group Sam Roberts Band.

Yves Gagnon, Canadian ambassador in Havana, said that this celebration is important and monumental for the two countries.

“All the things we do together have purpose and meaning," Gagnon said. “Tonight, artists from Canada and Cuba will share the stage and I think it's very meaningful because music helps us communicate with one another."

“This celebration is also important for visitor exchange," he added. “A lot of Canadians visit Cuba every year but few Cubans visit Canada and we are hoping to change that."

“Canada and Cuba have had a strong relationship for 70 years and that will continue to grow," said Amr Younes, Vice President Sales, Air Canada Vacations. “Cuba is a very important destination for Air Canada Vacations and we continue to invest in it. We are committed to developing the relationship and have many plans for the years to come."

Air Canada Vacations was one of the official sponsors of the 70th anniversary celebration. The tour operator currently serves 6 Cuban destinations out of four Canadian gateways.
