More Canadians Aussie-Bound

At a recent event hosted by VoX International and Tourism Australia, Robert Keddy – head of Commercial Partnerships, Tourism Australia, discussed the growing number of Canadians visiting down under each year, thanks in large part to their ongoing partnership with Air Canada.

More than 154,000 Canadians have flown to Australia over the past 12 months, which is an increase of 7.2%, with the month of February up by 12%. According to Keddy: “You don’t achieve these impressive increases without air capacity, and while I am excited to remind you that next month will be the one year anniversary of Air Canada’s year round daily service to Brisbane, I am absolutely thrilled to tell you that earlier this morning Air Canada has announced that beginning December 1 of this year, they will launch nonstop seasonal service, 4 times per week on their amazing and comfortable 787-900 aircraft from Vancouver to Melbourne.”

Keddy also noted that the Aussie Specialist Program (ASP) is seeing strong numbers in Canada. There are currently over 1200 registered ASPs which is a year-over-year increase of 79%, with over 700 who are fully qualified and have completed the training – an increase of over  54%.
