Nanaimo, BC’s Around the World Travel celebrated 60 years with a “1959” themed event at the Vancouver Island Convention Centre in Nanaimo on 7SEPT.

Present to celebrate the rare milestone were various dignitaries including His Worship the Mayor of Nanaimo, Leonard Krog, who gave a historical speech about life in Nanaimo in 1959. The event was hosted by emcee Erin Cebula of ET Canada and Global TV fame.

Staff were dressed in pink lady jackets from the movie Grease and the music and slide show reflected the era. Wine and appetizers were served. According to manager Raelene Cormier, “all in all it was a classy event.”

The event featured a trade show and presentations by various suppliers including airlines, cruise companies, adventure and exotic tour providers, a travel insurance company and destination specialists.

There were many prizes to be won, including two Air Canada tickets as the grand prize.

Around The World Travel owner Nazir Hirji says an agency reaching the ripe old age of 60 is “a rare milestone in today’s travel industry.”

The party and its aftermath has left Around The World Travel feeling young again: “The feedback has been tremendous,” said Cormier.
