OJ ON LOCATION – ACV Takes 120 Agents On A Curaçao Journey

An Air Canada flight carrying 120 agents from across Canada touched down at CUR yesterday afternoon for a three-day rapid-fire round of getting to know the Dutch Caribbean island's properties with Air Canada Vacations.

The first stop was Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort, a sprawling 2,000 acre gated plantation. Located on the southeast point of the island, guests can gaze out at the Venezuela coastline on a clear day.

The EP resort features seven on-site restaurants and bars and all-inclusive packages are also available.

For Kalpesh Joshi with Mississauga-based Vastu Vision, the resort's onsite golf course was what stood out. 

The Old Quarry Golf Course, designed by iconic golf architect Pete Dye, presents 18 championship holes for players of all levels. Here's an interesting fact: Santa Barbara's Charlotte from the sales team told Open Jaw that the resort hosts golf events in which participants can attempt a shot from the top of nearby Tafelberg Mountain – if they get a hole in one, they win a million dollars. No one has nailed the shot to date. 

Delia Pop with Uniglobe Travel Innovations said that while she found Santa Barbara to be elegant, romantic and polished, selling it will come down to matching the resort with the right client. 

Many of her clients are looking for all-inclusive packages, she explained, and resorts that offer the plan as an add-on tend to be pricier than straight-up all-inclusives. She added that price-sensitive guests may not be the right fit for this resort, as extra amenities like the kid's camp and recreational activities can add up.

The ACV FAM is Pop's first time in Curacao. She says events like this one are an amazing way to get to know the ACV team, personally see the accommodation offerings, and experience the island firsthand – giving her a strong advantage in selling the destination.
