Wiarton Willie: Sunwing’s Dave Wright Linked To ‘Shadow’ Cabinet
South Bruce Peninsula, ON, groundhog, Wiarton Willie predicted an early spring on Groundhog Day in front of a "Shadow Cabinet" that included Dave Wright, Director of Sales, Ontario and Atlantic Canada at Sunwing Travel Group.
Every 2FEB, a special selection of groundhogs are woken weeks before they would wake naturally from hibernation to predict the weather. According to a centuries-old legend, if the groundhog sees its shadow, it will return to its burrow, indicating six more weeks of winter.
Such was not the case this year, as Willie, undeterred by his shadow, didn't retreat into hiding, thus predicting an early spring.
“With cloudy skies and snow falling upon us this morning in #Wiarton it was very hard to find my shadow – even with all the camera lights around!” wrote Willie in a tweet. “Fans of spring rejoice, an #EarlySpring is around the corner.”
Sunwing has been a sponsor of the Groundhog Day event for several years.
