Viking has announced an order for seven new river ships for 2019. The new build order includes six additional Viking Longships® and one vessel designed for Portugal’s Douro River.

Viking Longships accommodate 190 passengers in 95 staterooms, 39 Veranda Staterooms and 22 French Balcony Staterooms. Sustainability upgrades include solar panels, organic herb gardens, and energy-efficient hybrid engines.

Viking’s new ship specifically designed for the Duoro River will accommodate 106 passengers in 53 staterooms.

The Viking way of exploration has resonated with our target audience of experienced travellers, and this new ship order is a reflection of strong demand for more destination-focused cruises,” said  Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking.

The new river ships will bring Viking's fleet to 69. By 2019, Viking will also welcome its sixth ocean ship making it the largest small ship ocean cruise line.
