Carnival Extends Operations Suspension Until JUN & Other Cruise Line Changes

As of 9APR, all cruise ships over 250 passengers and crew that operate in U.S. territorial waters have been put under a No Sail Order until at least mid-JUL by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The order will remain in place until COVID-19 is no longer a public health emergency, and supersedes individual cruise line dates for a return to service.

Here's a summary of updates to cruise line operations so far:

Carnival Cruise Line has cancelled all departures until 27JUN, commissions protected.

The following sailings have been cancelled:

  • All ships sailings through to and including 26JUN
  • All San Francisco sailings through 2020
  • All Carnival Sunrise sailings through and including 19OCT
  • All Carnival Legend sailings through and including 30OCT
  • All Carnival Radiance sailings through and including 1NOV

To date, Norwegian Cruise Line has officially extended its suspension of cruises through 10MAY, also protecting commissions as part of its Partners First plan. NCL has cancelled sailings of the Norwegian Sun from 21MAY, 2020 through 18OCT, 2020.

According to Cruise Week, agents praised CCL and NCL for once again protecting commissions on both cancellations and for those taking a future cruise credit.

Virgin Voyages has pushed back the launch of its new Scarlet Lady cruise ship to JUL 2020. The ship's official maiden voyage, originally scheduled for APR 1, will take place 7AUG, 2020, with several shorter pre-inaugural sailings starting 15JUL.

Celestyal Cruises has extended the suspension of its sailings until 29JUN 2020. The Greek specialist originally suspended operations until 1MAY but that period has now been extended.

Cruises will resume with the four-night “Iconic Aegean” sailing roundtrip from Athens. For guests with affected itineraries, Celestyal is offering a 120% FCC that an be redeemed by the end of 2021 for sailings through 2022.

Viking has made the decision to extend its temporary suspension of operations through 30JUN, 2020.
