Polar exploration operator Quark Expeditions has announced its lineup for the Antarctic 2021-2022 season, which features the inaugural season of its newest vessel Ultramarine.

“The focus of our Antarctic 2021-22 season is innovation,” said Thomas Lennartz, Vice-President of Sales at Quark Expeditions.

“When our team started planning the Antarctic 2021-22 season, we committed ourselves to creating a lineup of polar experiences that no one ever thought possible. We wanted to truly take our guests beyond in the polar regions and deliver life-changing adventures that have never been offered before.”

The 199-passengers Ultramarine -- which features two helicopters, 20 Zodiacs and a sauna with floor-to-ceiling windows -- is custom-built for polar exploration, added Lennartz.

Ultramarine, because of its design and cutting-edge technology, can take people places other ships can’t," he said. "This purpose-built ship will be an unrivaled operational base for polar adventure, allowing guests to push their boundaries and experience the magic of the polar regions by land, by ice, by sea—and by air.”

Highlights of the 2021-22 Antarctica season include:

  • Solar Eclipse 2021: Totality in Antarctica, with South Georgia and Solar Eclipse 2021: Totality in Antarctica with South Georgia and Falkland Islands will reunite experts from Quark's original 2003 Total Solar Eclipse in Antarctica voyage.

  • Celebrating Shackleton: Journey from Antarctica to South Georgia celebrates the life of Sir Ernest Shackleton, whose passing in South Georgia on 05JAN, 1922, marked the end of the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration. Guests on this voyage will follow in the footsteps of Shackleton’s Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1914–1917), including Elephant Island and wildlife-rich South Georgia, where, if conditions allow, guests will pay homage to Shackleton at his grave at Grytviken.

  • Quark Expeditions is also offering two new itineraries. Guests will retrace Charles Darwin’s voyage on   Essential Patagonia: Chilean Fjords and Torres del Paine   and enjoy the wonders of Cape Horn and Diego Ramirez, as well as the Antarctic Peninsula on   Antarctic Explorer: Discovering the 7th Continent plus Cape Horn & Diego Ramirez.
