Agents Say Advance Alaska Cruise Sales Best In Years

Overall advance sales for cruise business is strong for 2016, but reports says some markets 
are clearly outperforming others – with Alaska at the forefront.

Retailers report waning availability for desired categories in Alaska next summer on 
numerous ships, dates and key categories.

"We're having difficulty finding port side balcony space on southbound cruises from Seward to Vancouver and starboard side balcony staterooms on northbound cruises from Vancouver to Seward," reports Sherrie Funk of Just Cruisin' Plus.

Based on Cruise Week’s conversations with retailers, she's not the only one having a hard time finding space. "Alaska is having its strongest year in the early goings since the recession started in 2007/08," says another retailer.
Aggressive upfront promotions by leading lines are seen as one factor. Those promotions often overlap with Europe, but business on the books for 2016 Europe is not as rosy as Alaska for the upcoming summer, according to agents.

On Europe, "we're seeing a fairly high level of promotion, especially for balconies and suite categories," says Funk.
