Ouch: Some Vegas Hotel Rates Are Less Than The Resort Fee
Bruce Parkinson, Open Jaw
Cyber Monday was a day of big hotel discounts in Las Vegas, where tourism has slumped since the 1OCT shooting that killed 58 and injured hundreds more near the Mandalay Bay Resort.
MGM Resorts International was offering rates at Circus Circus starting at US$19 for stays starting Monday through Thursday nights, while Excalibur and Luxor hotels quoted mid-week rates starting at US$21 and US$27 a night, respectively.
And get this -- all of those rates are less than the $30 daily resort fee charged at those hotels. Meanwhile, MGM's Mandalay Bay was offering rooms for as little as $47 a night.
These weren’t last-minute deals: the discount extend for stays through next November at Excalibur and Luxor and through next September at Circus Circus.
MGM wasn't alone. Caesars Entertainment was offering up to 40% discounts at most of its Strip properties for stays through Dec. 14. Rates at the Rio All Sites Hotel & Casino started at $27, while Bally's Las Vegas was selling rooms for as low as $47 a night.
