Now It’s Gerbils! Woman Caught With Two Dozen Rodents Under Her Skirt

Bruce Parkinson, Open Jaw

Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to have two dozen live gerbils strapped to your legs? No, we haven’t either.

But that’s what customs officials found after noticing a woman with an “abnormal proportion,” after a flight from mainland China to the island of Kinmen. Yes, two dozen gerbils can make one look a bit lumpy.

Individually wrapped in bags, the 24 furry rodents were strapped to the woman’s legs and covered by a skirt.

According to reports, the woman claimed the animals were purchased for a friend  from a pet store in China. We’re glad we don’t have friends like that. We tend to draw the line at a souvenir keychain. And our friends know better than to ask us to use up our duty-free liquor allowance to bring them something. It’s not gonna happen.

Customs officials didn’t believe the woman, as gerbils apparently have a street value of as much as $125 in Taiwan, putting the value of the goods under her skirt as high as $3,000.

The Taiwan East Coast Guard referred the woman to a prosecutor.
