Passenger’s Drastic Action To Get Air New Zealand’s Attention

After you’ve tried calling, texting, tweeting, emailing... what’s left but to place a newspaper ad?

Right next to the seeking singles and used microwave listings, a New Zealander placed an ad in the country’s daily as a last ditch effort to get Air NZ’s attention.

Reaching airline customer service is challenging at the best of times. Given the demands of a worldwide pandemic, it’s become nearly impossible as airlines struggle to keep up with the barrage their call centres cope with.

After exhausting all standard modes of communication, the Air New Zealand passenger, whose identity is unknown, placed an ad in the NZ Herald pleading that the airline to get in touch with them.

"All attempts to contact Air NZ have proved futile," it said in the ad. "Please contact the person flying on RWZLSH." 

Bingo. Air New Zealand reached out to the passenger after seeing the ad.

Air New Zealand provided Simple Flying with the following comment:

"We reached out this customer yesterday and are working to assist them with their query. We know that Covid-19 has impacted our customers greatly and we are deeply sorry for the disruption this crisis has caused to so many of our customers’ travel plans. We acknowledge that as we have worked through the thousands of flight cancellations it has often been difficult to get in touch with us. Our Contact Centre has been extremely busy with our teams working extra shifts to help clear backlogs. We would like to thank all of our customers for their patience and understanding over the past two months."

And they say newspapers are dying!

"we promise that you will never have that problem with Rainbow Travel, we will always be here to help you re book or cancel your flight due to Covid 19
