Hotel Guests Want Fresh Coconuts, Lego Games & Sandcastles -- There's A Concierge For That!

There was a time a concierge made dinner or theatre reservations. Perhaps suggested a little hideaway shopping excursion. Now, they are building hideaway sandcastles.

A new wave of personalized concierges, butlers and gurus have seriously upped the hotel's “concierge game” as they seek to meet the distinct needs and wants of their clientele.

These experts possess a unique set of skills, ranging from resident goat gurus to bird whisperers, sky and astrology pros to genealogy butlers, even a coconut concierge.

This latter expert, who can be found at the Shangri-La Fijian Resort & Spa, is responsible for climbing the resort’s trees to collect coconuts and slice them with a sharp knife for guests to enjoy. Apparently, he gets in quite the workout, fetching more than 250 coconuts per day.

Over at Ireland's Ashford Castle, the resident LEGO Butler is on-hand to provide a full play set delivered on a silver platter to the room.

The concierge at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island knows all there is about sandcastles, and can help with the best construction strategies or snap the perfect photo to take home.

For blade enthusiasts, the steak knife concierge at the Park Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad, California has a long-running history in knife making. At the resort’s Argyle Steakhouse, he presents guests with five to seven knives, each with a different blade, size, weight, or design, and helps diners decide which goes best with their meal.

Even canines haven't been forgotten by the butler bonanza. At Las Ventanas Al Paraiso, A Rosewood Resort in Los Cabos, dog butlers roll out a long roster of services specifically for the resort's furry guests. Man’s best friend is treated to dog massages, portable pet cabanas, a “Canine Delights” room service menu, and “doga classes” (doggy yoga).

Whatever a guest's deepest desire, some hotels can truly claim that "there's a concierge for that!"
