Kijiji. The online flea market evokes images of used cars, furniture, maybe even a slightly used husband...but Air Canada tickets? You have to wonder if the scammer selling them and the consumers buying them are equally deranged. No red flags here?

A number of internet users were collectively out of pocket $35,465.70 after a 41-year-old Brampton woman posing as an Air Canada flight employee successfully sold them tickets.

Peel police said the woman, Amarjeet Kaur Saini, sold cheap airline tickets on Kijiji between 2018 and 2019. Several people purchased tickets from the woman, who communicated with them only through WhatsApp, police said.

The victims would later discover their tickets had been cancelled on the day of their flights.

Saini was charged with defrauding the public and will appear in court in DEC.
