Eat, Pray, Use Tinder: Thailand Plays Cupid For Travelling Singles
Anna Kroupina, Open Jaw
Dating is hard during the best of times, let alone during a pandemic, but Thailand-turned-Cupid is lending a helping hand to that nation’s lonely singles by combining love and the love of travel.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand and Tinder have partnered to offer tour packages specifically for matchmaking purposes.
The "Single Journey" itineraries are more than a travel booty call. They are aimed at locals as a way to encourage domestic tourism, so don't gussy yourself up just yet, but imagine the possibilities if this program also targeted foreign travellers… It opens up a whole new sea with plenty of fish!
The matchmaking program will feature a total of nine itineraries throughout the country. Three pilot voyages have already launched, with the first one being a cruise along Bangkok's Chao Phraya River for up to 100 singletons. The day-long experience includes sightseeing, dinner and a talk from a Feng Shui expert who will share tips on how to pay homage to Buddha and ask for "blessings."
We’ll leave it up to your imagination as to what kinds of blessing requests Buddha will have to entertain from singles on that itinerary… blessings in love or maybe in Kama Sutra skills?
The other two experiences being tested are a beach-side party and concert in Phuket and a train trip to the Pa Sak Jolasid Dam in Lopburi.
If they ever expand this idea for overseas visitors, then maybe those daydreams of zipping through Bangkok clutching tightly to a "Crazy Rich Asian" bachelor you met on your travels could become reality!
