A few travellers upset by robust airport security have occasionally stripped off their clothes in protest. But the naked man at BNA Sunday evening just wanted to be naked… in an airport.
At least one airport patron took to social media with photos of the nude man, who was seen walking around the terminal and standing in line at an AA counter, The Tennessean newspaper reports.
The man apparently parked in an airport garage, where he undressed and walked into the airport at around 5:30 p.m. local time.
“I turned my head and I saw some creamy white thighs and ankles,” witness Tod Brilliant told the New York Daily News. “And I said, ‘That’s a naked man'.”
Brilliant said travellers did not appear to be overly bothered by the odd situation. "I was pretty impressed with Nashville. Aside from a few people whose jaws were dropped, everyone else was doing their thing, going on business as usual. It was a great start to Nashville; it's a great city," Brilliant said.
Brilliant tells the Daily News that he assumed the man was making some sort of protest against the TSA, but that apparently was not the case. One Twitter commenter suggested he may have been looking for a Spirit Airlines ‘Bare Fare’ but there was no evidence of that either.
Nashville airport spokeswoman Shannon Sumrall told The Tennessean the man has tried similar stunts at the airport on a “handful” of other occasions. But this is the 1st time he’s made it this far into the terminal, she says. He was taken into custody by police shortly after entering the terminal. “Wasn’t anything malicious. Just a harmless gentleman,” Sumrall said.
