SeaWorld Dolphin Snatches iPad From Unwary Tourist
A visitor to SeaWorld Orlando learned the hard way to keep valuables away from the touch tank.
Video caught by another park-goer last weekend shows a dolphin reaching up and out of a swim tank and snagging a woman's iPad right out of her hands. And as Fox 13 reports, the dolphin appeared to swim around jubilantly afterward.
Kuadiel Gomez, a season pass holder at SeaWorld recorded the dolphin encounter on his camera. He told Fox 13 he was waiting to record a video of his 14 month old son petting the dolphins when he noticed one of the animals peering up at a woman whose gaze was locked on her oversized camera. He said he started recording early, sensing something was about to happen.
"I couldn't believe what was happening right in front of me," said Gomez. "They're usually kind of friendly and just swimming around. They go on the ledge every now and then, but that day, I don't know, they seemed like they didn't want to get petted that much or touched."
His video captured the woman's stunned expression as the dolphin dragged her ipad into the water then splashed the crowd seconds later with a fellow dolphin. “She was definitely upset. She tried to snatch her ipad out the water as soon as possible," said Gomez.
Gomez said since posting the video on Facebook, it has been shared and viewed millions of times worldwide. "I'm glad it reached as many people as it’s reached to make them smile and laugh, because I know I was laughing the whole time," said Gomez.
SeaWorld got in on the fun, announcing: "As you can see, the dolphins can reach your loose items," just after the incident.
Some of the commentators to the YouTube video had some fun too. Some examples:
“Animals want to play Pokemon Go too.”
“At first I thought it was an accident, but now I realize he did it on porpoise.”
“He didn’t want to miss Shark Week.”
“He would have returned it after updating his status.”
