On day one of the #ACVDreamMakers Mega FAM to Costa Rica, the excitement levels were sky high, to say the least…
Some 136 travel agents were up at the crack of dawn to make their way to Toronto Pearson to join the FAM, which featured site inspections of some of the Liberia region’s most stylish resorts, including: Dreams Las Mareas, Secrets Papagayo Resort & Spa, Occidental Papagayo, Villas Sol Hotel & Beach Resort, Westin Playa Conchal Golf Resort & Spa, Villas Playa Samara and Occidental Tamarindo.
“I’m very excited because this is the first time that ACV has arranged anything on this magnitude,” enthused Dina Bertolo, vice president of product development at Air Canada Vacations on the flight.
“Our management team understands the benefits of having their staff and travel agents experience the product. They want them to see Costa Rica; to feel it, breathe it and live it.
“The destination is a big deal for ACV and we were happy to see that the FAM sold out in a couple of days. Really, we could have filled five planes to Costa Rica!”
Friendships are forged in the Rendezvous Lobby Bar at Dreams Las Mareas.

Excitement builds on the Liberia flight.
ACV and Dreams Las Mareas welcome agents with a sumptuous dinner on the beach.
As the plane began its decent into Liberia, the agents on board were sensing the excitement too.
“I’m looking forward to bringing my clients a new destination to think about,” explained Kim Mathison, a home-based Transat agent. “So many of them just do Mexico or the Dominican Republic, so it’s good for me to bring them information about something new. After a FAM you go home and you’re comfortable with selling the destination so you can get them to try somewhere different.”
Having reached our destination resort for the evening, the glorious Dreams Las Mareas, the agents gathered on the beach for a sumptuous candle-lit welcome dinner.
“What a way to kick off the first night in Liberia!” Marigold Frontuna, ACV sales general manager for Western Canada, announced to the crowd.
“Over the next few days we hope that you gain valuable information to help you sell the destination. Take lots of pictures, ask lots of questions and make lots of notes. And when you get home share that knowledge on your social media and tell your colleagues at the office about it. I want to encourage each and every one of you to soak in the sights, sounds and lovely flavours of Costa Rica.”
