ACV Dream Makers in Costa Rica

Agents Explore Westin Playa Conchal, Villas Sol and Occidental Papagayo

with Vickie Sam Paget

Next up on the #ACVDreamMakers Mega FAM to Costa Rica: site inspections of Westin Playa Conchal Golf Resort & Spa, Villas Sol Hotel & Beach Resort and Occidental Papagayo.

Westin Playa Conchal
With its chilled-out, high-end vibe, the sprawling five-star Westin Playa Conchal Golf Resort & Spa is no stranger to Canadian travellers.

“Around 20 percent of our occupancy in the winter is based on the Canadian market,” explained Yira Salas, leisure sales manager at the Westin. “So it’s very important to get Canadian travel agents to come down here to see it for themselves.”

Beauty abounds around every corner at the Westin Playa Conchal.

The resort tends to attract a more active traveller—clients who are interested in doing more than a regular beach vacation: “This area is known for its nature and we are surrounded by forest, so you can see monkeys and iguanas on the property,” added Salas. “If your clients are looking just to lay down on the beach, this is not the place for them—but if they are looking for a combination of nature and the beach, this is the perfect place to be.”

Magdalena Debrowolska, a home-based agent for The Travel Net Inc, certainly approved: “The Westin is in such a beautiful, lush setting. It’s a pretty spread out property, but the beach there is phenomenal. It would appeal to families and honeymooners, because they have their own adults-only section. And, of course, the Westin brand sets the property apart.”

Kelly Burns of TPI - Kelly’s Travel and Tours enjoyed the easy walkability of the property: “When we first arrived I thought it was very big and sprawled out, but after walking around this morning, I love it. It’s one of my favourites. It is level, you can walk to the beach and the people here are very friendly.”

Ami Hisanaga of Centre Holidays was especially impressed with the value and quality of the lead-in room: “The lead-in room is really gorgeous,” she said, “And I just love the lush layout and the jungle-feel of the resort. And the food—oh!—it’s so good! I’d send higher-end clients and those who are celebrating anniversaries here. I also think retired people would like it because there’s a golf course.”

Occidental Papagayo
Over at the four-and-a-half star Occidental Papagayo, Kelly Burns was impressed by the views: “It’s on a big cliff side, so it has some beautiful views. There aren’t a lot of restaurant choices, but it’s nice for a lead-in all inclusive. And the beach, when the tide is out, would be nice.”

Villas Sol
But the big reveal property of the day had to be the three-and-a-half star Villas Sol Hotel & Beach Resort, with many of the agents expressing pleasant surprise at the quality of the property despite its three-and-a-half star rating.

“For what the star-rating is, I really like it,” enthused Ami Hisanaga. “Yes, the rooms are simple, but the main pool is really nice and the views are gorgeous. Of all the properties I’ve seen I think it has the best views. And the one-bedroom suite there is unbelievable. If you had a group—a family or a bachelorette party—there is a full kitchen, so you can go down to the market and then cook for yourself. It really was a pleasant surprise and it’s a great property for a budget-friendly family or people in their late 20s and early 30s.”

Three-and-a-half star Villas Sol certainly boasts five-star views.
