Travel search engine KAYAK has compiled a list of destinations which they forecast Canadians will be travelling based on top search trends.
According to KAYAK's data, travellers will be taking more time off this year compared to last year with an increase in vacation days for Canadians, Americans and those in the U.K. Canadians are leading the way with an average of 13 vacation days over the holiday season. Research indicates that Canadians wait until October to start the holiday search in comparison to Americans who start searching in September.
"When it comes to Canadian travellers, one trend we continue to see every year is their love for warm weather destinations- especially during the holidays," says David Solomito, V.P. of Brand Marketing North America. "When we looked at the most popular destinations for Canadians over the holiday season, Florida was a clear favourite with three out of the top five destinations in the sunshine state which isn't surprising given its sunny skies and proximity to the east coast of Canada.”
According to KAYAK data, Montego Bay ranked #1 among the top ten trending holiday destinations for Canadian travellers with a 53% increase in searches compared to last year. For those looking for last minute deals, Cancún and Puerto Vallarta both make the top 10 trending list.
As far as regional trends are concerned, for Torontonians, Lisbon ranks #1 in the top trending holiday destinations list with a 190% increase in searches. For Calgarians, Cape Town and Lima rank among the top searched destinations reflecting more than an 80% increase.
