Spain welcomed a record 81.8 million visitors in 2017, a new record. Nearly 500,000 Canadians were among them – 489,307 to be exact – up a remarkable 25.2% year-over-year.
The global arrival figure represents an 8.6% increase from 2016 and positions Spain in second place on the world ranking of most visited countries, only after France.
The most visited destinations in Spain were Catalonia, Madrid and Andalusia, followed by the Balearic Islands and the Valencia Region.
Another interesting and positive statistic is the outbound tourism from Spain to Canada: 88.000 Spanish tourists visited Canada in 2017, an increase of 12.1% from the previous year and representing the highest growth of any main European market to Canada.
