WestJet’s ultra low-cost subsidiary Swoop is preparing for launch, but the airline has offered another option for its most price-sensitive pax with a new basic economy fare, called Econo Lowest.
The airline points out that there are some important things for pax to know before booking:
Econo (Lowest) will not be eligible for refund, exchange or name changes
There is no option to select pre-reserved seating during the booking process. A seat will be auto-assigned at the time of online check-in and travellers will have the option to select a standard seat at check-in at the airport for a fee.
Checked bag fees will apply, as with regular Econo fares
Upgrade to Plus at the time of check-in will not be available
WestJet Rewards members travelling on an Econo (Lowest) fare will not earn WestJet dollars, and the booking is not eligible towards qualifying flight spend
The fare type will not be available on every route
In a blog posting, WestJet wrote: “Econo (Lowest) will allow us to provide a fare for everyone – from those looking for our premium economy Plus fare, to those guests looking to fly at the lowest price without added features. In short, our new fare option offers even greater access to our growing network and caring guest experience, making it easier for every Canadian to travel.”
