IATA Releases List Of Airlines Participating In NDC Adoption Initiative

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has published a list of 20 “Leaderboard” airlines that have each committed to delivering at least 20 percent of their volume through New Distribution Capability, or NDC-capable application programming interfaces by 2020.

This list came in response to a call made at the IATA World Passenger Symposium in OCT 2017, where IATA invited airlines with “strong aspirations to grow their NDC volumes rapidly” to participate in this initiative. The airlines selected would become the Leaderboard group, and the aim of this group is to drive a critical mass of NDC transactions that, in turn, will encourage more airlines to realize the benefits of NDC and drive further adoption.

With an aim to “transform” the way air products are retailed to corporations, as well as to leisure and business travellers, NDC addresses the industry’s current distribution limitations, including product differentiation and time-to-market, access to full and rich air content, and a transparent shopping experience. The NDC is also said to enhance the capability of communications between airlines and travel agents.

Air Canada, the lone Canadian carrier on the list, states that through NDC, it is now “better able to distribute its full suite of products in a manner that allows the end customer to make transparent and informed decisions.”

The full list of Leaderboard group airlines is:  Aeroflot Russian Airlines, Air Canada, Air France, Austrian Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, China Southern Airlines, Finnair, Iberia, JetBlue Airways, KLM, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Scandinavian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, SunExpress, Swiss International Air Lines, and United Airlines.
