EXCLUSIVE: Duncan Bureau Named President Of Air Canada Rouge

Bureau has held the role of Vice President, Global Sales at Air Canada since June, 2014, the latest stop in a 20-plus year career in the airline industry. 

“In this role, Duncan will assume oversight for all aspects of our low-cost carrier and subsidiary Air Canada Rouge, focusing on its distinct brand and culture,” says Ben Smith, President, Passenger Airlines.

Bureau will report to Smith. In a corresponding change, John MacLeod, previously Vice President, Commercial Strategy, is taking on Bureau’s former responsibilities under the new title of Vice President, Global Sales and Alliances.   

Smith says that in MacLeod’s new role, in addition to his existing responsibility for Air Canada’s Alliance relationships with foreign carriers, including STAR Alliance, he will assume accountability for the global sales organization, including responsibility for revenue generated through all sales channels from all points of sale.

Prior to his AC sales role, Bureau spent two years as Senior Vice President, Global Sales & Distribution for Malaysia Airlines, based in Kuala Lumpur, which came after nearly a decade as Vice President, Sales & Airline Partnerships at WestJet. 

The colourful executive began his aviation career in 1997 as Financial Controller, Europe, Middle East and Africa for Canadian Airlines.

Founded in December 2012, Rouge first took flight in June, 2013. Designed to help Air Canada compete more aggressively in the leisure and vacation market, it now has a fleet of 50 planes, split between Boeing 767-300ER and Airbus A319-100 and A321-200 planes. 

Rouge flies to 50 destinations in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, South and Central America, Mexico and the United States.
