Riviera Nayarit’s tourism industry is booming, according to a release from the Riviera Nayarit Convention & Visitors Bureau. Following a successful 2017 when the destination generated close to $200 million in revenue and maintained a hotel occupancy rate above 80%, including an occupancy rate above 94% at its four-star properties, Riviera Nayarit is on track for more growth into 2020 as it opens a number of luxury hotels and new developments.

“Riviera Nayarit is a destination like no other,” said Marc Murphy, managing director of the CVB. “Our versatility and distinct appeal have translated into recent success for our pristine destination, from resort town Nuevo Vallarta to the historic village of San Blas, celebrity haven Punta de Mita, surfing mecca Sayulita, and everything in between.”

In the second half of 2018, the destination will welcome the region’s first Fairmont property, as part of a larger development project currently underway that will eventually be home to five new hotels and more than 7,000 new rooms. The seaside community will be located on more than 550 acres and will also feature a beachfront village with 2,500 residential units and a golf course designed by Lorena Ochoa and Greg Norman.

In 2019, Mexico’s first Cirque du Soleil Theme Park will open and Rosewood Hotels & Resorts will debut the 130-room Rosewood Mandarina.

Also set to open is the second stage of the Grand Sirenis Matlali beachfront development adding 140 suites, along with a 300-room Iberostar property in Litibu, and two Punta de Mita properties, including Auberge Resort Collection’s Susurros del Corazon and Conrad Hotels & Resorts’ redesign of the former La Tranquila Resort, Conrad Playa Mita.

In the final quarter of 2019, One&Only Mandarina will debut One&Only Mandarina Private Homes, which will open alongside One&Only Mandarina Resort, Rosewood Residences and Rosewood Mandarina, as well as the Mandarina Polo and Equestrian Club.

Looking to 2020, AMResorts is set to open Dreams Punta de Mita Resort and Spa and Secrets Punta de Mita Resort & Spa.

“We are looking forward to an expansive list of new developments that will continue to propel the region to new heights, with projects set to debut in the coming months and many more on the horizon through 2020,” said Murphy.
